Officer Matyja is serving as the Papillion Police Department’s SRO representative at Liberty Middle School. He is a 9-year veteran of the department and has served as a patrol officer on night shift for most of his career. Before becoming a police officer for Papillion, Ofc. Matyja spent five years in the City's water department. He is the lead active threat instructor as well as a defensive tactics instructor. Ofc. Matyja has also held the rank of Acting Sergeant and is a current member of the department’s Honor Guard team. Officer Matyja was born and raised in South Omaha and is a 2001 graduate of Omaha Bryan High School. Officer Matyja has an associate degree from Metro Community College and a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Peru State College. In his leisure time he enjoys golf, skiing, woodworking and tinkering in the garage on his car. He is a Notre Dame fan, and not just their football team, but all their sports. He enjoys horses and has ownership stake in several. Officer Matyja is married with two sons who keep him busy with their activities. While Ofc. Matyja likes the idea of dog ownership; he really is a cat guy at heart and currently finds himself taking care of his 20-pound tabby cat Knute.
