Fitness Class Descriptions
No matter your fitness level, the Papillion Landing Community Recreation Fitness Center has a class which will keep you engaged. Find our class descriptions here, and be sure to check back periodically as we add more classes.
This class is a challenging interval class in the water. This class uses the Tabata HIIT (High intensity interval training) format; 4-minute rounds consisting of 20 seconds work, 10 sec recovery, for 8 sets which equal 4 minutes. Improve your cardio respiratory endurance and strength.
Barre has come to the pool. Use ballet inspired movements and gentle resistance to tone arms, legs and core. Express is a 30 min version of the class. Swimming ability is not required.
Pilates practice moved to the reduced gravity environment of the shallow water. Challenge stability enhance core strength and improve alignment. Swimming ability not required.
Aqua Stretch and Tone
Increase muscle definition, burn calories, improve flexibility as well as feeling better overall. Leave feeling refreshed, stretched and energized. Swimming ability not required.
Use the properties of water and yoga philosophy to increase your confidence in your movements. Use poses to improve balance, increase muscular strength and promote active engagement between mind and body. This is a shallow water class; swimming ability is not required.
This class blends the Zumba® philosophy with water resistance for one pool party you shouldn’t miss! There is less impact on your joints during an Aqua Zumba ® class so you can really let loose. Water creates natural resistance, which means every step is more challenging and helps tone your muscles.
This class is a ballet inspired workout which includes dance moves with and without the barre.
Barre with Baby
This class is a ballet inspired workout choreographed with expecting and new moms in mind. It’s the perfect way to tone and strengthen your pre/post-natal body while creating a stronger bond with your baby. Class is open to pregnant, & postnatal moms, and all other adults wanting to attend. Pre-crawling babies welcome, baby wearing encouraged.
This class will break down basic yoga poses and postures. You will learn the proper techniques for alignment and positioning while reducing stress and anxiety. No experience is required for this class, but please bring your own mat.
This class Bollywood workout is a Bollywood-inspired dance-fitness program that combines dynamic choreography and intensive workouts with upbeat music.
This high intensity workout with a mix of cardio and strength training for a total body challenge. Frequently changing format to keep your body at peak performance. Open to all fitness levels.
This class will use the resistance of the water to improve cardiovascular fitness, endurance, and flexibility.
This class will challenge your body in a variety of ways while having fun. Circuits include a variety of exercise stations that focus on strength and endurance moves. It alternates between upper, lower, and core muscle groups so little rest is needed between stations. Beginners to seasoned athletes will benefit from this class.
This class strengthens the core in all planes of motion using a standing, seated, kneeling, and lying positions. Core stability and posture will positively affect movement and performance.
Core 30 Minute
This is an intense core workout with upbeat music, you'll learn new exercises to help sculpt the body. It is for ALL fitness levels- tons of different modifications so no need to get discouraged.
This class combines yoga poses and core work to challenge your body. A stronger core helps you move and perform better.
Couples will be happy to work together on some basic two-step, triple step, waltz, and Cha-Cha’s, circle dances on your level if you need more of a challenge ask for some variation. Dress comfortable casual you can be in workout gear or street clothes with low heels non-scuffing shoes. Individuals are welcome.
Indoor cycling focuses on endurance, strength, and intervals with varying intensities and recovery segments. All fitness levels are welcome. We use Stages bikes and the Flight system; the Flight system is a multimedia fitness experience that enables indoor cyclists to set goals and track performance.
*For Krissy’s 5:30 am Tuesday and Tamsen’s 8:10 am Saturday morning classes, participants are able to reserve their bike 12 hours in advance. Go to sleep knowing you have a bike.
This class's focus is to stretch and flow to get rid of all tightness and soreness from the weekend’s activities so you can move better throughout the week.
Ebb & Flow Yoga
A mindful, balanced practice. Beginning with a peaceful Yin sequence, the practice transitions to an integrative Vinyasa Flow. Al Levels Welcome.
This class starts with beginner flowing moves, drawn from yoga and other modalities to open up all the major muscle groups to help you improve your range of movement. Time will also be spent on posture improvement to enhance overall fitness.
This well-balanced, fluid style class will get you out of your head and into your body by moving with the breath through traditional standing, seated, and lying poses. Benefits include increased flexibility, strength, balance, focus, and stress relief. Modifications will be offered.
This class will offer a slow-paced, nurturing format in order to focus on physical health and mental well-being. Poses will be a mix of Hatha, slow flow, yin, and restorative styles of yoga. Benefits include increased flexibility, joint mobility, balance, myofascial release, relaxation, and stress relief. Poses will mostly be done seated or lying, with some standing poses. Props will be used and modifications will be offered.
High-Intensity Interval Training involves short bursts of intense exercise with recovery periods. Fast-paced moves can be done at your own pace. This is great cross-training option to alternate with the traditional steady endurance workout.
HIIT - Tabata - High-Intensity Interval Training
This motivating class offers a full-body workout, both equipment, and body-weight exercises may be used. Tabata rounds consist of eight rounds of 20 seconds of work and 10 rest totaling 4 minutes and then students will recover for 30-60 seconds.
Challenge your body in a new way that is different than the usual strength training. This is a total body workout that will also get your heart rate up. Kettlebells are an effective training –tool for improving total body strength. Modifications will be offered, open to all fitness levels.
Line dance exercise, energy, and helpful with memory reinforcement. These moves may be a good workout for some; social for others, something for every level of dancer. Dress in layers comfortable casual and with low-heeled shoes that do not mark the floor.
A people-inspired dance fitness program that combines explosive dance movements and bodyweight toning. Our moves are big and exaggerated, which means we add a lot of lunges, jumping jacks, and squats into our dance routines, as well as booty, pops, and body rolls.
Movement 4 Life
Let's move for health, function, and longevity. We will work on dynamic movement and mobility to improve daily skills. In addition, we will improve balance and strength.
This class is a fusion of Pilates and Yoga it uses dynamic flowing sequences to strengthen muscles and increase flexibility. This format will help lengthen the muscles, increase core strength, and improve balance.
This class is a high-Intensity Interval class that consists of two mini-circuits of four to five exercises that last 30 seconds each for multiple rounds per circuit.
This class is about slowing down and opening your body with stretches, long holds allow your body to relax deeply. Props are used to support your body instead of the muscles.
Slow Flow Yoga
This class is designed as a progressive and slightly slower paced flow class linking breath and movement to move the body and quiet the mind. The class includes a warm-up and traditional standing yoga poses linked to the slow flow to create strength, flexibility, and balance. This class finishes with deeper stretches on the mat along with a relaxation session. All fitness levels are welcome, and modifications are always offered.
Stability Ball 55+
What are all those big bouncy balls taking up space around the gym? Stability balls – also called exercise or balance balls are more than fun to sit and bounce on. Come have a “ball” with us as we work to improve strength, flexibility, balance, and range of motion.
This class is a total body strength-focused class that will use a variety of equipment such as body-bars and resistance bands and body-weight to improve muscle strength and endurance. We’ll offer fun combinations to keep you challenged.
Strong Nation, formerly known as Strong by Zumba®
Combines body weight, muscle conditioning, cardio, and plyometric training moves synced to original music that has been specifically designed to match every single move.
This class features a series of slow-flowing motions and deep slow breathing to exercise the body and calm the mind. You will move from one pose to another gradually, shifting your weight and extending your limbs. Join us as we move toward improved balance and health.
Total Body Attack
This class features a total body workout with an all-in effort that incorporates quick intervals and cardio bursts that are sure to leave your heart pumping.
Tween Yoga (ages 9-13 all levels)
Hey Tweens! Come explore the many benefits of Yoga. Besides improving flexibility, strength, and balance we will learn ways to be more mindful and reduce stress. Come increase your physical health through movement and fun. New themes weekly.
Yin Restore Yoga
This class is a mix of Yin and Restorative yoga that helps the body return to balance. Yin is a slower-paced, mellow practice that gently accesses connective tissues and fascia with longer, passive holds. Restorative yoga is a soothing, therapeutic practice where gentle poses are held with props gently supporting the body. Poses in this class will be done sitting, lying, and close to the ground allowed gravity to do much of the work. Benefits include improved range of motion, increased bone density, circulation, flexibility, mental focus, and relaxation.
A slow-paced style of yoga that targets the connective tissue and fascia throughout the body using passive stretches. It helps to increase circulation in the body and improve flexibility. This helps regulate the body’s energy as well. The majority of the poses are on the floor and are held for longer periods of time. Will include some meditation. All fitness levels are welcome, variations shown, and encouraged.
A fitness-inspired Vinyasa practice designed to build strength and endurance while connecting breath with movement. All levels of experience are welcome.
Youth Yoga (ages 4- 5)
Youth yoga is perfect for all fitness levels and specifically geared toward children 4- 5 years old. We will practice movement, mindfulness, play yoga games, and have fun! Enjoy new themes such as Rainforest Yoga, Ocean Yoga, and Animal Yoga each week.
Youth Yoga (ages 6-8 all levels)
Youth yoga is perfect for all fitness levels and specifically geared toward youth 6-8 years old. We will practice movement, mindfulness, play yoga games, and have fun! Enjoy new themes such as Rainforest Yoga, Ocean Yoga, and Animal Yoga each week.
A fusion of Latin and international music and dance that creates a dynamic, exciting, and effective cardio workout. These fun easy routines feature interval aerobic training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body as you dance.
Combines targeted body-sculpting exercises and high-energy cardio work with Latin infused Zumba® moves to create a calorie-torching, strength-training dance fitness party. With lightweight dumbbells, you’ll work every muscle while you groove.
