   Conservation

With the dry conditions and hot temperatures last summer, our water system was forced to impose water restrictions.  The latest reports from climatologists suggest that this summer could be more of the same.  Now is the time to be thinking about water conservation.  Here are some tips:

Lawn Watering: Water when the temperatures are cool, such as early morning.  Water only when the winds are calm.  Position sprinklers so they are most effective.  Turn off automatic sprinklers after periods of rainfall.

Kitchen: When hand washing dishes, fill the sink with soap and water and shut off the faucet instead of running water the whole time.  Keep a container of drinking water in the refrigerator to avoid running the tap until the water gets cold.  Thaw foods in the refrigerator instead of under running tap water.

Bathroom: Take a short shower instead of filling the tub.  This can save 15 to 20 gallons.  When brushing your teeth, fill a glass instead of letting the water run the entire time.
