Neighborhood Watch
Neighborhood watch is a grass roots, citizen based program designed to organize citizens and neighborhoods in an effort to reduce crime. National statistics show that residential crime decreases where Neighborhood Watch Programs are organized. Neighborhood Watch can be an effective way to monitor crime in your neighborhood. A good neighbor is one of the most effective crime tools ever invented.Goals: To identify incidences of residential crime in Papillion.
Objectives:
1) Organize and train citizens on how to secure their homes and personal property in order to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime.
2) Encourage neighbors to become familiar with each other, along with how to work together in a program of mutual assistance.
3) Train citizens to utilize the "Vacation Watch Program" provided by the police department.
4) Promote open communication between neighborhoods and the Papillion Police Department
How to Develop a Program:
The Papillion Neighborhood Watch Program is not complicated and can be implemented in a short period of time. The program doesn't require large investments of time or money by citizens, is flexible and can be adapted to meet the needs of any particular neighborhood. To develop a program or join an existing program, please contact the Neighborhood Watch Program Coordinator at the Papillion Police Department, 402.597.2035.
Participant's Responsibilites:
1) Become acquainted with surrounding neighbors.
2) Learn crime prevention techniques.
3) Secure home and personal property.
4) Maintain a cooperative system of watchfulness over one another's property.
5) Report suspicious and criminal activity to police and serve as a witness if needed.
