Location & Transportation

Papillion, the County Seat of Sarpy County, is located just south of Omaha, Nebraska. Papillion is approximately 45 miles east of Lincoln, Nebraska; 540 miles east of Denver, Colorado; 186 miles north of Kansas City, Missouri; 380 miles south of Minneapolis, Minnesota and 471 miles west of Chicago, Illinois. Such central positioning in the Midwest allows same-day or overnight transportation to and from anywhere in the United States.

Utilities

Papillion and surrounding citizens enjoy quality public utility services at comparable rates. The Omaha Public Power District provides wholesale electric service to the city, while Black Hills Energy provides gas and energy services to the community, offering uninterruptible service upon request to commercial and industrial customers.

Papillion manages its own water system, which produces an 8,000,000 gallons per day supply to the municipal water system. A municipal sanitary sewage system and a storm sewer system combine to preserve the quality of life enjoyed by residents.

Today, Papillion provides homes and businesses the advantages of the Internet's flexibility and convenience through our newly constructed Sump Memorial Library.

Educational opportunities in Papillion are plentiful and respected nationally with a mixture of private and public schools. Papillion-La Vista is among the 10 largest school districts in Nebraska covering more than 30 square miles of both urban and rural areas. Papillion continually addresses the needs of our students with updated facilities.

Papillion-La Vista students continue to score above the national and Nebraska average on the ACT (American College Test).

Specialized programs are developed to meet the unique talents and interests of the gifted students not only academically but the areas of creativity and the arts.

With such a solid foundation, it's no wonder that higher educational opportunities abound in the Papillion area. Bellevue University, Metropolitan Community College, University of Nebraska at Omaha, College of Saint Mary, Grace University and Creighton University are all within easy commuting distance from Papillion. Each of these colleges are fully accredited providing intensive career educational programs at the diploma, associate, bachelor and graduate degree levels.

Recreation & Quality of Life

Papillion maintains a wealth of parks, greenways and trail systems allowing for hiking, picnicking and other family activities. Our Halleck Nature Trail, which winds through the heart of the city and runs parallel to the beautiful Papio Creek, is kept busy with walkers, runners and bikers daily.

Papillion has a variety of fully equipped neighborhood and city parks, premier athletic fields and complexes, Papio Bay Water Park with several exciting amenities, a newly constructed city library complete with a state-of-the-art technology center and several private recreational and fitness facilities.

Papillion has two beautiful 18-hole golf courses and clubhouses tucked into gorgeous residential settings; a par-three, 18-hole golf course that is challenging for the new and experienced golfer and Walnut Creek, a beautifully developed 500-acre lake with features that include camping, hiking and biking trails, horseback riding trails and fishing.
