Kai

Entered Service September 27, 2001

The Papillion Police Department sadly announced the death of our police K-9 Kai on October 21, 2009. 

Our police service dog Kai was a Belgian Malinois that entered service with our department on September 27th, 2001 and ended his career on October 21, 2009.  He was first paired with Officer Matt McKinney, who left the Papillion Police Department in 2003 to join the Omaha Police Department.  Since that time, Kai has partnered with Officer Chris Goley.  Together, they formed a  team known throughout the region for their professionalism, competence and toughness.

 At 9 years old, we were already planning to transition Kai to a well-deserved retirement.  But he apparently didn't know that, because 2009 was one of his most productive years.  However, in October Kai was unexpectedly diagnosed with pervasive cancer.  Within one week of the diagnosis, Kai was gone. 

During his years of service, Kai earned numerous accolades and awards.  Most notably, each year the Vom Kaiserhofe Training Center in Kansas City, Kansas conducts a K-9 competition which draws hundreds of service dog teams from all over the Midwest.  Kai competed each year from 2003 through 2007.  His results are reflected by the awards he earned listed below:

Kai's performance demonstrated consistent excellence.  Kai will be missed by all of us at the Papillion Police Department, as well as throughout the Papillion Community.
